Doctor Strange mystifies its audience with its magic and wizardry

Marvel’s newest release, Doctor Strange, was highly anticipated by millions of fans.  The movie, which premiered on Nov. 4, received an 8.0/10 IMDb rating.  Marvel fans nationwide were getting excited for the release of the film starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, and Sherlock actor Benedict Cumberbatch.

The film follows Doctor Steven Strange’s journey of healing, in which he begins training in the art of magic.  Doctor Strange was a neurosurgeon who damaged his hands in a car accident.  Upon discovering that there was a person whose paralysis was healed, he ventures to Nepal to be trained in mystical arts by the Ancient One, and he becomes a sorcerer.

The film was packed with nonstop action, and there were a few noteworthy moments that fans popularly recognized.  For example, a highlight was when Doctor Strange and the Ancient One have a huge fight in a twisted form of New York City, in which the two are bending the skyscrapers, flying, and falling all over the place.

“Another highlight is the conversation between Doctor Strange and the Ancient One while they are in their astral, or spiritual, forms.  The Ancient One tells Doctor Strange that whether he’s ready or not, he’ll have to face Dormammu, the main antagonist and villain,” said freshman Dominic Cotsonas.

The actors in the film were praised for their fantastic portrayals of the widely loved comic book characters.  The movie included Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Steven Strange and Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One.  Cumberbatch is best known for his performance as Sherlock on the widely popular British television show, Sherlock, while Swinton gained fame from portraying the evil White Witch in The Chronicles of Narnia movies.

“I’ve read a few of the Doctor Strange comic books, so I felt that the characters were portrayed very well.  Many fans were excited to see Benedict Cumberbatch in this movie, as he is a very popular actor in both Britain and America,” said freshman Hannah Siskin.

The red carpet world premiere, which was held on Oct. 20 at 9:00 PM, attracted many fans as well as celebrities.  When the film was released on Nov. 4, fans all over the country headed to their local movie theaters.  The box office rolled in a total of $85 million on the release date, and $192 million for the release weekend.  A total of 325 million fans viewed the film the weekend Doctor Strange was released.

Overall, everyone excited for the movie’s release was satisfied with the film, and most were pleased with the casting decisions.
