Performers have a ball ringing in the New Year on NBC

Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 2017 special featuring Ryan Seacrest was one to remember.

The annual New Year’s Eve television broadcast was started by ABC in 1972 and has been a hit since the beginning.

Today, it is part of New Year’s culture, especially in New York.

This year’s special hosted a variety of live performances and famous talented artists.

This particular program has been the number one New Year’s broadcast for years. However, it is always in competition with NBC’s rival program, New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly.

The Times Square production began at 8:00pm on Dec. 31 on the ABC Television Network.  This year’s ratings had the show at a 2.8 out of 4 stars and drew a total of 13.1 million viewers throughout the night. Although the ratings were particularly low, this New Year’s Eve was a night to remember.

The Crowds were as excited as ever, filling Times Square with the usual cheer and chaos that New Year’s Eve is all about. The show included a diverse group of singers, representing all different types of music and satisfying crowds of fans in the hours preceding the New Year’s countdown. In Times Square, Mariah Carey, DNCE, Thomas Rhett, and Gloria Estefan lightened up the show and brought excitement to the new year.

Mariah Carey suffered a variety of issues during her performance of “Emotions” and “We Belong Together”. Carey struggled to hit her notes throughout the performance. At some point, she refused to keep singing, as technical difficulties prevented her from being able to lip sync.

The artist’s performance has brought a ton of negative attention towards her. The New York Times called her a “train wreck” in their recap of the performance, and her act was deemed disastrous by many users all over social media.

Mariah’s producers, however, have been blaming Dick Clark Productions heavily for the singer’s difficulties.  This controversy continued to make headlines into the new year.

Conversely, the other performances of the night were incredibly successful. DNCE and Thomas Rhett were extremely well received and had the crowd roaring.  Gloria Estefan took the stage with the cast of her hit Broadway musical, “On Your Feet!”  Cohost, Jenny McCarthy was interacting with the crowds throughout the night.

The production also included pre-taped segments from the Billboard Hollywood Party, hosted by Fergie from the West Coast. Some notable acts from this portion of the program included Fifth Harmony, Niall Horan, John Legend, and Hailee Steinfeld.  This all-star lineup brought even more fun to an already exciting evening.

Additionally, actress Lucy Hale hosted portions of the program from New Orleans. The inclusion of this new location and host proved successful and did extremely well in ratings for the event.

The New Year’s Performances made possible by ABC Television Network’s New Year’s Production, as well as rival programming, made the night even more special and memorable for audiences everywhere.
