Short on costume ideas? Why not make one yourself?: With a huge amount of options, DIY costumes are fun and original

As October comes to an end, many people are counting down the days until they can show off their Halloween costumes.  Some people have been planning for months just to get ready for the weekend of celebration.  While many look forward to finding the perfect costume, there are a lot of people who just don’t have the time or don’t want to put in the effort.  Luckily, there are still many costume options for you if you want a good costume that doesn’t take too much time or effort.  Also, many of these costumes are inexpensive, so you won’t have to spend an excessive amount of money on a costume for one day.

“I like dressing up for Halloween, but I don’t really care enough to plan too far in advance,” said freshman Zach Gitlin.  “I usually try to find a cheap and easy costume that will still show that I have some Halloween spirit.”

There are so many options for last minute costumes, and you can easily find the perfect one for you.  For example, anyone could dress up as a tourist.  All you have to do to pull this costume off is wear a cheesy touring outfit, maybe khaki shorts and a Hawaiian shirt, and carry around a camera.  You can add as many accessories as you would like, but you don’t need much for people to understand your costume.  Almost everyone has some clothing they can use and even if you draw or print a picture of a fake camera, the costume will still look great!

“One year I had to dress up at camp and I didn’t have much with me, so I was a tourist,” said junior Sarah Gottesman.  “It was really easy, comfortable and cute.”

Another quick and easy costume that you can wear without spending any money is a sports player.  If you have a ton of old football or baseball jerseys lying around your house, you can easily wear the jersey on Halloween to be that athlete.  Maybe you can even add some eye black to enhance to costume, but overall, it is very simple and affordable.  Even if you don’t own a jersey, it is very easy to borrow from a friend or family member.  This costume will help show your Halloween spirit and is really easy to pull off!  It is always a great option when you don’t know what to wear.

“One year, my friends and I were all football players for Halloween,” said junior Maddy Weiner.  “We just wore jerseys and eye black and it worked out really well.  I would definitely recommend that costume.”

If you want to wear something a little more creative but are still limited on time, maybe you can try a Sriracha bottle.  All that you need to create this costume is a red Sriracha tee shirt, which you can easily purchase online for a cheap price, and a green hat.  With just two items of clothing you will have a creative and fun costume.

If you want to stick with the food theme, you can also be a piece of sushi.  This costume is even simpler because all you need is a white shirt to represent the rice, and a pillow to represent the fish.  You will also need a piece of fabric to tie the two together and quickly turn a pillow into a great costume.

“I think it’s always cool to dress up as some sort of food because the costumes are always funny and creative,” said junior Davida Harris.  “There are a lot of complicated food related costumes, but there are also a lot of easy costumes that are definitely comparable.”

If none of these costume ideas are appealing, there are also plenty of different websites that display hundreds of different last minute costumes.  Don’t worry if you haven’t found a costume yet because there is still plenty of time to find the perfect one.
