Television and movie fans are excited for the new releases on Netflix this month

Netflix has made some questionable removals and additions in the past, but this month’s lineup is full of familiar favorites. Some popular films that students may consider watching are Apollo 13, America’s Sweethearts, Batman, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Bring It On, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, Lethal Weapon, Martin Luther: The Idea that Changed the World, The Shawshank Redemption, Troy, Wedding Crashers, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, Rent, and the Conjuring.
These movies and TV shows cover every genre, and the additions appeal to viewers of all ages. Batman and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory are childhood favorites of many students, while the Conjuring and the Shawshank Redemption are much heavier R-rated movies. Additions such as How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Martin Luther are more lighthearted and are perfect to watch on a night in.
The Godfather, widely referred to as one of the greatest films of all time, is one of the most notable January additions. Many Schreiber seniors are a fan of this movie after seeing it in their Film and Literature class.
“The Godfather was a fantastic movie. My class and I loved it. It’s great that they added it to Netflix because now future film students can easily access it if they miss a class,” said senior Sami Levine.
Netflix also added Godfather II and III, so any fans should definitely watch those as well.
However, the addition of these great films also means many movies, series, and shows were removed from Netflix. Viewers will miss classics like Forrest Gump, Grease, Free Willy, Mean Girls, Law and Order, the Parent Trap, the Switch, and White Chicks.
In spite of the removals, the addition of new movies, shows, and series to Netflix is a good thing. It lends more variety to the popular streaming site, as the newly added options are highly acclaimed.
