Good Eats: Serra Provisions

Seasonal ingredients and locally sourced food are hard to come by these days.  Although processed and pre packaged are the easiest to find, a new Italian inspired market located on 7 Sintsink Dr. E Port Washington is on a mission to change that.

“This is definitely one of my new go-to choices for food.  There are so many wonderful options and the fresh pasta is so good. I absolutely love the location as well. The store is so cozy,” said sophomore Izzy Kaplan.

All of Serra Provisions products are free of GMOs, sugars, and other preservatives.  Jesse and Brittany, the owners, have a goal to provide people with the best food products with eco-friendly packaging alternatives.  From pastas to sauces and everything in between, this market provides fresh in house made products serving to make your taste buds happy.

Stepping into the shop you can be expected to be greeted by a beautiful array of sauces, spices, pastas, honeys, peppers, meats, and so much more.  The chill and calming atmosphere makes it the perfect location to grab a couple ingredients to whip up an amazing meal.  With the many options to choose from, it is near impossible not to find something that will satisfy your needs.

“I was a chef in many different cities in the country for over 25 years.  Due to the pandemic and being a chef, I had to do a lot of reevaluating.  We moved to Port from the city and family life is very important to us.  This shop provides the perfect balance between work and family,” said owner Jesse.

The shop provides a vibe suitable for anyone and everyone.  It is quiet and calm but also warm and welcoming.  If you get thirsty, they also sell an array of drinks perfect to quench your thirst.  The building was actually used as a dog grooming business before it was transformed into the market it is now.

“This location was actually very close to where we moved and it used to be a dog groomer building.  There is actually a metal hook here on the counter from where the groomer would put the dog leashes,” said owner Jesse.

If you’re not the cooking type, there are also fresh made options that are ready to go and equally delicious.  They also offer catering and on their website, there is a tab to fill out a form for your catering needs.  Their website also contains options to order products online as well as the store menu, location, and their story.  If you are not able to go in person, their website is definitely worth visiting at https://www.serraprovisions.com/come-find-us

A wide variety of pastas are offered as well as meats and sauces.  Some specific items on the in-store menu include fresh salads such as the kale caesar and scarola, vegetables such as roasted brussel sprouts, cauliflower, and squash.  They also offer meatballs, roasted chicken, prosciutto, smoked turkey, and plenty of other meats.  Some cheeses they sell are parmesan cheese, ricotta, tuscan pecorino, aged provolone, gorgonzola, and other cheeses.  They also offer soups such as tomato & fennel and organic honey nut squash.

“I tried some of their fresh pasta with their sauce the other day and it was so amazing.  Definitely different from all of the other things I have had and I am excited to try more. I also love how many different spices they have on the shelves. It’s so fun to pick one and try something new,” said sophomore Emelia Adler.

As far as new markets go, Serra Provisions is definitely one worth checking out.  They provide all of the necessary ingredients for an incredible meal as well as some spices that you can experiment with on your own to make a wonderful creation!
