College Corner – Bucknell University

For seniors, deciding which college to spend the next four years at is an enormous deal, so it’s imperative for students to commit to a school that suits their academic interests and social life.  As for former Schreiber student, Leah Schachter (Class of ‘22), Bucknell University seems to be checking all the boxes.

“I really wanted a small school that had a nice surrounding town to it.  The programs fit my academic interests overall, too,” said Schachter.

Shachter was interested in finding a small school that wasn’t in a necessarily busy area, but had access to a nearby town.  Just under 4,000 students attend Bucknell University, and the campus is just a ten-minute walk from the town of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania.  Bucknell provides shuttle transportation back and forth, so if students are out at night, they always have a safe way back to their dorm.

Schachter enjoys walking around campus, exploring all there is to do, listening to music, and watching the sunset with friends after dinner.  Her favorite place on campus is “The Quad,” where students sit during early hours and the evening to chat and take in the sunset.  Additionally, Bucknell has no shortage of sports teams, and while Schachter doesn’t partake in them, she is planning on attending home football games, where there are fireworks after.  Some of Bucknells’ most popular sports for students to attend are basketball and football, where the student community comes together in a display of school spirit.  For those who aren’t into sports but want to become involved in the school community, Bucknell has a club for everyone, despite being a small school – some include the Biology Club or the Anime Club.

“I just recently joined the Real Estate Club, Mental Health Club, and the Women’s Resource Center,” said Schachter.

The campus itself is beautiful with nature and brick buildings found everywhere and there’s almost always an event going on.  For students who wish to leave campus for the day, Lewisburg offers a multitude of restaurants and stores for students to choose from.  On campus, there are numerous dining options, which include The Bison, The Commons Café, Bostwick Marketplace, and Concessions, all of which are critically acclaimed by students at the university.  There is also the iconic Flying Bison food truck that operates on Fridays and Saturdays, which is loved by all Bucknell students and community members.

“I really love the campus.  It’s so beautiful, and every day, I feel extremely grateful that I get to go to college here at Bucknell,” said Schachter.

From the food to the academics to the extracurriculars, Bucknell is a well-rounded school with a beautiful growing community of excellent high-achieving students and supportive professors and staff.  Everyone that attends Bucknell seems to be very happy, outgoing, and hardworking.  Schachter, in particular, is very pleased with her decision to attend Bucknell, and couldn’t imagine herself anywhere else.  Although there are so many colleges for Schreiber seniors to apply to and consider, Bucknell University is an incredible school to attend and can become the dream college experience for many.
