Pitch Perfect tells the gripping story of Beca (Anna Kendrick), a freshman enrolled in fictional Barden University. The film chronicles Beca’s college experience as she is coerced to join the notorious all-girl a cappella group the Bellas.
Kendrick fits well with her character as Beca helps the girls takeon their male rivals, the Trouble Makers.
The casting for this movie is phenomenally well-done. While it is difficult to pick cast members who are talented in both acting and singing, the Pitch Perfect cast handles both roles perfectly.
Rebel Wilson is especially entertaining as “Fat Amy.” Though she is not among the best of the singers, she did bring a comedic addition to the movie in her simple yet hilarious interactions with the other students.
Brittany Snow and Anna Camp play the roles of the simpleminded Chloe and Aubrey, the two original Bellas. They play rather dimwitted and annoying characters, but fit into the group well with their excellent singing capabilities.
One of the more outstanding performances is given by Kendrick, who adds a tremendous amount of charisma and really shines on screen.
The most impressive musical number is the “Riff Off.” Showcasing the entire cast’s musical talent in one big event, all of the fictional a cappella groups come together and sing different songs in a highly entertaining competition.
As it continues, it magically combines eight different songs in five minutes. Kendrick does a fantastic job in both rapping and singing, making it a favorite mashup among fans. The mix of songs emphasizes the appeal it has for viewers of all ages and interests. This movie also had other phenomenal mashups, including the Bellas’ final performance in the championships featuring Jessie J’s “Price Tag” and “Don’t You Forget About Me” by Simple Minds. The mashups incorporate new and old songs attracting all ages at the same time.
Many have compared this movie to the television show Glee. Pitch Perfect is like no other musical comedy that has ever been made and simply cannot be compared to other musical comedies.
Overall, Pitch Perfect was a breathtaking movie worth watching again and again. The outstanding music and hilarious cast entertains from beginning to end.
