Fast & Furious 6 proves that each new installment to the Fast series is bound to be more ridiculous than the last.
It features the intense automobile action that viewers have come to expect, with cars and drivers alike ignoring nearly every law you’ve learned about in your physics class.
The film shows us where our favorite team of street-racing bank robbers are now after their last big heist in Brazil. After being extradited from the United States, the characters live separate lives in all corners of the globe.
Meanwhile, DSS agent (played by a very-muscly Dwayne Johnson) tracks an organization of lethally skilled mercenary drivers. At the conclusion of an investigation he discovers that the head of the group is an ex-British military officer by the name of Shaw. Knowing it’s too much to handle he turns to the Fast and Furious team for help.
This group is led by the iconic Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and Brian O’Conner (Paul Walker). Toretto and the team agree to help apprehend Shaw, but only on the condition that they receive amnesty for all of their prior crimes so that they may return to the U.S.
While there is some semblance of a plot, nobody goes to a Fast movie for one. There is a reason that it is currently the the best selling movie in America (almost $200 million). People are going in droves to see these films because of the incredible cinematography and unreal automobile action scenes that will blow you away.
The movie is filled with car chases that go above and beyond the kinds you’d typically see in a standard action film.
Director Justin Lin does a superb job of giving the film a sense of self-awareness, enabling him to include as many ridiculous action scenes as possible.
At one point, there is even a scene of a car driving through an exploding airplane. However, if there is anything that should be known before walking into this film, it’s that you’re going to need to suspend your disbelief quite a bit.
One should also take note of the fact that every actor in this movie is clearly on board with the absurdity of it all.
Dwayne Johnson fits the role especially well. His character is all about beating up anyone who doesn’t tell him what he needs to know.
There is some great camaraderie between everyone on the team that makes the film feel a lot more fun.
However, it is less fun to watch when the characters open their mouths. Although the film’s action is what most people go to see the movie for, one cannot help but note the awkwardness of interactions between the film’s characters.
Fast and Furious 6 is packed with cringe-worthy one-liners that accomplish nothing other than making the two-hour runtime actually feel like two hours. However, it wasn’t too great of a negative factor as a result of the dialogue being kept both brief and sparse.
Overall, Fast & Furious 6 is quite the spectacle to see.
The vibrant and exciting direction makes up for the areas in which the film is lacking.
