A show grows in Brookyn’s ninety-ninth precinct

Comedic actor Andy Samberg is known for the legacy he has left on Saturday Night Live.  He made the switch from NBC to Fox and is now a star ina new hit comedy, Brooklyn Nine-Nine.  When the show premiered on September 17, more than six million viewers tuned in to see Samberg’s return to television, and it is easy to see why.

Adam Samberg stars as Detective Jake Peralta, a childish, laid back detective who must now answer to his new strict, by-the-book captain, RayHolt (Andre Braugher).  The show follows the humorous exchange between the eccentric Jake Peralta and the 99th Precinct’s new Commanding Officer, Captain Holt, as he struggles to impose a by-the-book rules on Peralta.  Braugher’s character is everything you would not expect of Samberg: uptight, serious, conceited and so forth.  The clash of the stringent Ray Holt and the egotistical Jake Peralta creates a completely contradicting, yet hysterical duo which is essential to the series’ humorous tone.

While working to crush Brooklyn’s crime rate, Peralta’s strident personality seems to be the culprit behind growing tension amongst his fellow colleagues.  Starting with his his fellow detective and love interest, Amy Santiago who, while contending against Peralta, cannot stand to watch Peralta constantly defy the precinct’s obligatory code.  However, the greatest dispute stems from the recent reassignment of captain Ray Holt (Andre Braugher).  Braugher’s character is everything Samberg’s character is not: uptight, serious, conceited and so forth.  The clash of the stringent Ray Holt and the egotistical Jake Peralta creates a completely contradicting, yet hysterical duo which is essential to the series’ humorous tone.

Though Peralta and Holt are not the only strong figures throughout the show.  In addition to the two, Detective Charles Boyle (Joe Lo Truglio) exemplifies the hopeless yet hardworking employee, detective Rosa Diaz (Stephanie Beatriz) represents the rebel who keeps all co workers on their toes and the precincts secretary Gina Linetti portrays the standard gossip figure who is constantly snooping within everyones business.  The wide range of personalities working within the precinct is likely to speak to a variety of viewers at home who are sure to find a character that they can relate to.
