Where the Gilmore Girls lead, viewers will surely follow
Fans are anxiously awaiting the revival of hit 2000s television series Gilmore Girls, which is being released on Netflix on November 25. Most fans thought the series was over after its seventh season, which aired in 2007. The revival of the series, called Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life, features four 90-minute episodes, with each episode taking place in a different season of the year. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life picks up roughly eight years after we last saw Rory and Lorelai.
Gilmore Girls is a feel-good show about the life of single mother Lorelai Gilmore and her daughter Rory which follows their lives in the comfortable hamlet of Stars Hollow, Connecticut. Throughout the series, the two live and learn together, struggling with relationships, family problems, financial issues, and more. The focuses largely on their mother-daughter bond, as Rory and Lorelei are best friends who share everything with one another. The bond the members of the Stars Hollow community is also highlighted in the show. Since the town is so small, everyone is close with one another. The show’s small-town dynamics and witty dialogue are what has made Gilmore Girls so popular.
Many fans are ecstatic that the original producers of the series, Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino, will be in charge of the revival’s production. Of course, most of the original cast members are returning as well, most notably Lauren Graham as Lorelai, Alexis Bledel as Rory, Scott Patterson as Luke, Melissa McCarthy as Sookie, and Liza Weil as Paris.
“I loved the cast of Gilmore Girls, and I am so excited to see them all return together,” said junior Kathryn Pizzuti.
One of the most long-awaited storylines is the relationship between Lorelai and Luke Danes, the owner of the local diner and one of Lorelai’s love interests throughout the series. The two had a complicated relationship, as they started off as friends, became something more, and proceeded to break up and get back together multiple times. During the final episode of the Gilmore Girls in 2007, Luke and Lorelai shared a kiss, leaving viewers wondering if they ever officially get back together. Despite what the writers had in mind, fans long for the pair to be together, and hope that they are a couple in the revival.
“Luke and Lorelai were so good together. I really hope they end up together at the end of the revival,” said junior Mia Froccaro.
The question of who Rory ends up with is perhaps what excites fans the most. She three primary love interests throughout the course of the show: her high school sweetheart, Dean Forester, bad boy Jess Mariano, and preppy frat boy Logan Huntzberger. Each character is returning for the revival, but nobody knows who Rory will end up with. Viewers have different opinions and predictions about who Rory will marry.
“I want Rory and Logan to be together. He was always my favorite of her boyfriends, maybe because he was so nice” said junior Gabi Kesselman.
Fans cannot wait to see their favorite characters and Stars Hallow eight years later. Although the characters are older and storylines will be different, viewers are hoping that the feel of the town and the show in general will remain true to the original series.
As they excitedly await the revival, fans can binge-watch the last seven seasons of Gilmore Girls on Netflix to get ready for the new season.
