Who doesn’t love a romantic movie?  You may have a preference for comedies or heartbreaking dramas, but either way, February is the perfect time to cuddle up and watch a romantic film in honor of Valentine’s Day. These movies are sure to melt your heart and put you in the perfect mood for the day of love, whether you plan on spending the day with you significant other, best friends, or alone on the couch.

1. A Walk To Remember

A Walk To Remember is a wonderfully sad romance film based on Nicholas Spark’s 1999 novel.  The story follows the love story of an unlikely couple, the rebellious Landon Carter and soft-spoken Jamie Sullivan in North Carolina.  After getting in trouble, Landon is forced to be a part of the school play, where he first meets Jamie. The two have completely clashing personalities, but they soon learn to tolerate each other and eventually fall for each other by the middle of the movie.  The classic bad-boy-falls-for-good-girl love story is always heartening and fun to watch.  Although their love story doesn’t end happily, the plot is well-developed and very entertaining.

1. 500 Days of Summer

500 Days of Summer differs from the other movies in the list in that is is not really a movie about love; it focuses on lost love, a failed relationship, and the realization that love is sometimes unrequited but life continues to go on.  The main character, Tom Hansen, played by Joseph-Gordon Levitt, begins the movie by meeting the beautiful and fun Summer Finn, played by Zooey Deschanel.  The story then follows the progression of their relationship as friends, lovers, and exes, in a timeline that flashes back and forth within the 500 days of their time together.  The nonlinear timeline, noteworthy cast, beloved soundtrack, and important themes of the movie are some of the essential elements that make it one of the most endearing romantic films.

3. She’s The Man

She’s The Man, starring Amanda Bynes and Channing Tatum, is a classic rom-com that is sure to make anyone laugh.  After being cut on the soccer team of her high school, Viola (Amanda Bynes) enrolls in the soccer team at  a boarding school, pretending to be her brother. Besides the messages involving sexism and prejudice against women, the movie also involves a lot of drama and love.  With the handsome and charming Channing Tatum playing Duke, Viola’s roommate, of course their was bound to be love in the movie.  But will Duke fall for Viola, given their complicated backstory?  You have to watch to find out.

4. A Cinderella Story

A Cinderella Story is another feel-good movie with an amazing cast and love story.  The main character, Sam, is a modern-day Cinderella, with no father, a wicked stepmother, and terribly cruel stepsisters.  Sam makes an online friend and they agree to go to the school Halloween themed homecoming dance. Sam, wearing a mask, soon realizes that her online friend is Austin, the most popular guy in school. Will Austin still love her if he knows her true identity?  This story is always a fun and exciting romance for viewers to engage in.

5. Clueless

Clueless is the quintessential teen flick. Based on Jane Austen’s Emma, the movie follows ditzy, popular Cher Horowitz as she navigates the complicated landscape of friendship and love. With its clever humor, charming protagonist, and heartwarming story, Clueless is always an enjoyable watch, perfect for any rom-com enthusiast.

6. The Notebook

The Notebook is arguably the most classic romantic movie of all.  The movie, which came out in 2004 is based on the 1996 novel by Nicholas Sparks, following the story of Allie and Noah’s forbidden love through the course of their lives, starting in the 1940s.  The movie features Rachel McAdams and set the stage for Ryan Gosling’s career as one of Hollywood’s biggest heartthrobs.

7. When Harry Met Sally

When Harry Met Sally is another classic rom-com starring Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan as Harry Burns and Sally Albright.  Harry and Sally met because Harry was dating a friend of Sally’s.  The two disagree about the relationships between men and women. Harry says that it can never be platonic, while Sally argues that men and women can have relationships without sex.  The movie is a wonderful and funny commentary on love and friendship, and is a must-watch this Valentine’s Day.

8. Crazy Stupid Love

Crazy Stupid Love is a lighthearted movie following the course of three couples.  First, Cal Weaver, played by Steve Carrell, is still in love with his wife, Emily, who cheated on him with a coworker.  Cal’s children’s 17-year-old babysitter, Jessica, is in love with him, but his son Robbie is helplessly in love with her.  Ryan Gosling plays the womanizer Jacob, who meets Cal in a bar and immediately pities him as he weeps about his divorce.  He agrees to teach Cal how to pick up women, even though he recently found himself in an unfavorable situation when a woman, Hannah, says no to his advances because she was waiting for her boyfriend to propose.  Confused yet?  The number of characters in the movie and all of their connections is perhaps what makes it so exciting and unique.

9. 27 Dresses

27 Dresses is another fun romantic comedy which is perfect to watch around Valentine’s Day. This film follows neurotic, hardworking Jane, played by Katherine Heigl, who has served as a bridesmaid at 27 weddings. When her sister gets engaged to Jane’s boss, whom Jane is in love with, antics ensue and Jane is forced to finally make her own choices to find love and happiness. Even though this movie may be cheesy, it is full of heart and comedy, making it the perfect choice for a romantic night in.

10. Dirty Dancing

Dirty Dancing is a classic 80s film that is sure to fulfill your romantic cravings. This iconic film has become a classic when it comes to romantic movies, and is a must-see for any fan of the genre. While spending a summer in the Catskills with her family, innocent teenager Baby Houseman falls in love with suave dance instructor Johnny Castle. The catchy songs and trademark dances in this film have entranced audiences for years, and will be sure to satisfy anyone in need of a heartwarming romantic drama.
