Epic finale shows that not even The Vampire Diaries is immortal

The Vampire Diaries is a show full of adventure, passion, and danger, evoking a range of emotions among its viewers.  For the past eight years, writers Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson have poured their hearts into making this show something fans would look forward to.

As the show came to a close on Friday, Mar. 10, viewers were left in tears.  Much has changed throughout the seasons.  The characters, who started out as average teenagers, found themselves in a town surrounded by supernatural creatures.

The show revolves around the bond of two vampire brothers, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder), and their love triangle with a human, Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev).

Their beloved town, Mystic Falls, is crawling with vampires and all types of supernatural creatures such as witches, werewolves, hybrids, doppelgängers, and sirens.  Fans have never witnessed an episode that doesn’t leave them wanting more.  There are plot twists and surprises every season.  Many episodes consist of new love stories, new characters, and, unfortunately, new deaths.

“It consumes me.  I finished four seasons in two days.  I don’t know if that’s an accomplishment or really sad, but the show is so good I don’t care,” said junior Tessa Weiner.

When Nina Dobrev left The Vampire Diaries after season 6, many fans were reluctant to continue watching.  She had been the main character of the show for so long that many felt it would not be the same without her.  However, new characters were introduced and new storylines continued to captivate fans.  Stefan and Damon encountered many obstacles, along with other main characters, Caroline, Bonnie, Matt, and Alaric.  After season 7 concluded, the producers of the show announced that season 8 would be the final season.

All fans knew that this was going to be an extremely emotional ride, simply due to the fact that no one knew what was going to happen to Elena.

The final season kicked off with a message from the cast, and as Julie Plec said, “the only things left to do are to say thank you and goodbye.”  Right from the start, viewers knew that this would be a wild ride, and it for sure was.

The two hour finale special kicked off with a review of the cast, discussing how much they have changed since the beginning and how important they are to the show.

After reminiscing on some of the writers’ favorite memories, the finale began and so did the tears.  Most fans agree that the finale was a truly incredible ending to a timeless series.
