Plaid the Impaler: dress to kill in this fantastic fall trend
Autumn is finally upon us, so get ready for a season of colorful leaves, creative Halloween costumes, and all things pumpkin flavored. Now that the weather has cooled down a bit, it’s time to welcome the latest fashion trends and styles, as well as classic fall staples.
Different patterns have always moved in and out of fashion, but plaid clothing seems to be a timeless favorite. Plaid and tartan patterns can be found everywhere in any form, from skirts to shirts to socks. All over the world, people cannot get enough of this stereotypically 70s look.
Fortunately, plaid items are not difficult to come by this season. Whether you are looking for a cute jacket to wear with any outfit or a classy skirt for a special occasion, chances are you won’t have difficulty finding it.
Plaid is an autumn classic, but this year, something new has taken the spotlight: gingham. This vintage checkered pattern was last popular in the 70s and 80s, but it has suddenly made a huge comeback.
One store overflowing with new plaid and gingham arrivals is Urban Outfitters. This is especially convenient for Schreiber students, as there is a location right over at the Americana Manhasset.
“I’ve been into Urban Outfitters recently and I actually noticed how much plaid they have now, which definitely makes me think of the seventies,” said junior Vicki Galvez.
Their checkered shift dress, which is often layered over plain t-shirts or turtlenecks, is a popular favorite. Pairing a checkered dress with a solid shirt makes for a casual yet put-together look. Another Urban Outfitters favorite is the plaid trucker jacket, which is purposely oversized and extremely comfortable. This type of jacket is known for its versatility, as it can be worn by anyone, with anything from a t-shirt and jeans to a casual dress. The plaid trucker jacket is perfect for this early fall current weather, as the temperature keeps dropping with each passing day.
You can also find tons of plaid and checkered items over at the Roosevelt Field Mall. Many of the larger department stores, such as Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, and Neiman Marcus have plenty of this pattern in stock.
“I love my flannel shirts,” said junior Joe Clark. “They’re so comfortable and easy to wear, especially for school.”
Although this style has been prevalent throughout the ages, it has particular draw during the fall season. Its down-to-earth style and relaxing tones make it a fall must-have.
Although there are many new trends this season, such as subdued florals and pins and buttons, it cannot be denied that customer desire for plaid is at its highest. Based on the iconic 70s fashion we all admire, this look can be seen worn all over this season. From a casual pair of pants to a trendy dress, anyone can make this style work in their wardrobe this fall.
