Netflix is changing and fans are missing their favorite shows

Netflix is most students’ favorite way to take a break from school work. The popular streaming service offers countless shows and movies that people can’t get enough of. Some of the most popular shows that students like to watch are dramas or comedies like Friends, The Office, and Grey’s Anatomy.

This October, One Tree Hill, Friday Night Lights, 30 Rock and a few other shows left the streaming site.  Fans were disappointed that such beloved shows were removed, but in many cases, Netflix is not to blame, as the company makes deals with TV companies or services that only make shows available for a certain amount of time.

Most recently, frequent Netflix watchers were shocked to find out that How I Met Your Mother was leaving Netflix.  How I Met Your Mother is an American sitcom and romantic comedy which is comparable to Friends.  The show follows a group of friends living in New York City as they navigate their twenties.  The episodes are based off of the entertaining life experiences of the main character, Ted, as he tells his kids the story of his struggle to find love and how he met their mother.

“It is such a light-hearted and feel-good show that could put anyone in a good mood,” said senior Amanda Krantz.

How I Met Your Mother was one of the most popular shows on Netflix, and students are devastated that it is no longer accessible on Netflix.

How I Met Your Mother has been my go to show when I’m sad, bored, or really for any mood. With all of the stresses of my daily life this show was a brief reprieve for me.  There are not many things in life that you can count on to unconditionally, and without fail, put a smile on your face and make you laugh out loud, but I know that I can always count on this show to do just that,” said senior Eve Harari.

In addition, other popular shows including It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia have left Netflix.  It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, another comedy, is one of the longest running live-action comedy shows in television history.  “Always Sunny,” as fans call it, is still airing new episodes on TV, but now old episodes are not as easily available.

“I believe it’s a real loss from Netflix.  Many viewers will miss their favorite shows and may even subscribe to a new streaming website to be able to watch,” said Krantz.

Although Netflix doesn’t offer these great shows anymore, there are still other streaming options where they are available such as Hulu.  Hopefully, Netflix will stream new shows and movies that live up to the popularity of How I Met Your Mother and other shows that left Netflix these past few months.
