Highlighted Artist: Post Malone
Austin Richard Post, more commonly known as Post Malone, is the new face of the pop/rap industry. The rapper, singer, writer, and performer, who was raised in Texas, caught most people’s attention during the winter of 2015 when he released his debut single “White Iverson.” Shortly afterwards, he landed a record deal with Republic Records. As his fanbase continued to grow, Post Malone began to release more singles, such as “Congratulations,” and “Rockstar,” which went on to reach number one on Billboard’s Top 100 charts. At just 22, Post Malone is doing exceedingly well, and he has a second studio album coming out later this year.
Post Malone spent most of his childhood in Syracuse, New York with his father and stepmother. He attributes his love of music to his father, who was a DJ in his youth and introduced him to the world of hip-hop, rock, and country music at an early age.
The rapper’s appeal lies in the unique style of his music.
“I love Post Malone’s music. He was a different sound compared to many rappers and I really like his style,” said sophomore Jamie Ambos.
With his eclectic sound, Post is currently listed as the second most popular artist in the world based on streaming numbers and digital sales.
Post Malone has also been becoming more popular on social media, with 7.1 million followers on Instagram and 3 million followers on Twitter. His fans love him mainly because of the inspiring and thoughtful stories he shares and because of his unique background. Post is a white, Jewish rapper in an industry surrounded by other talents who are mostly not in that situation. His confidence with himself is a major reason as to why he has so much support.
“I’m a big Post fan. I think it’s inspiring that a Jewish figure can make such huge accomplishments in the music industry, especially with all of the anti-semitic comments flurrying around,” said sophomore Jamie Levin.
It’s clear that Post Malone is making a significant imprint on young lives and has much of his career to look forward to. Look out for Post Malone’s second album, Beerbongs and Bentleys, which is coming out later this year.
