The best workouts for when you want to be inspired to get out of the gym

We’re all familiar with the stress of going to the gym. Who’s going to be there? Is the guy who goes everyday and lifts 500 pounds going to judge me because I didn’t run 15 miles as a warm-up? How does one even work out?

If you’re one of those people who worry about going to the gym, there’s no need to worry! There are a number of trendy, up-and-coming locales where you can get a great workout without having to go to the gym. Soulcycle, SolidCore, and OrangeTheory (which is opening soon) are all places where you can a unique workout that will leave you feeling energized and exhausted at the same time.

SoulCycle is a cycling studio located in Roslyn and is one of the most popular alternatives to traditional workouts. Depending on your instructor (Mark, Jo and Jade are the best), you will get a rigorous workout that involves core, arm, and leg exercises. Cycling shoes and towels are provided, but don’t forget to bring a water bottle.

“At first I was nervous to go there because I heard it was really hard, but it was such a good workout and I would definitely go there again and recommend it to others” said junior Sami Flyer.

SolidCore, another alternative exercise program, offers pilates and bootcamp workouts and is also located in Roslyn. It is a 50-minute, high intensity class. The classes are smaller than those at Soul Cycle, so the sessions are a bit more personal.

“SolidCore is so nice because it works out your whole body,” said senior Taylor Sweeney.

OrangeTheory, which already has locations in Carle Place and Syosset, is coming soon to Port Washington. The OrangeTheory fitness center will be located on Port Boulevard and offers hour-long workouts with heart rate based interval training. OrangeTheory uses a variety of machines and exercises as well as a coach to push you through the workout.

If you prefer one-on-one training to group classes, NXT GEN fitness might be the place for you. Located on Channel Drive here in Port Washington, it offers personal training for anything you want, whether you’re training for a race, increasing your energy, or simply getting stronger.

While you’re doing these intense workouts, it is important to remember to take care of your body and stretch your muscles. Om sweet Om, Port’s best-known yoga studio, is the perfect place to do this.

Exercise is all about figuring out what works for you. Besides these studios and gyms, there are great ways to work out on your own. Biking around town or going for a run are classic examples. There are also many apps such as Sworkit that give workouts based on what preferences you select on the app. It provides you with 30-second interval workouts, personalized for whatever body part you would like to workout. 7 Minute Workout is another popular app which allows you to fit an efficient workout into even the busiest of schedules.

If you want to spice up your workout, and get away from the gym, try one of these places that are all located in the Port Washington area. You may end up loving it!
