Highlighted Artist: Billie Eilish

California singer and dancer Billie Eilish debuted her subtle indie electro-pop sound when she was barely a teenager.  Born and raised in Los Angeles, sixteen-year-old Eilish grew up in a household of actors and musicians, and was homeschooled.  At the age of eight, she joined the Los Angeles Children’s Choir, developing the soulful vocals that would later appear on her early singles.

After the release of  songs “Six Feet Under” and “Fingers Crosses,” Eilish made her breakthrough with “Ocean Eyes,” produced and co-written with her brother Finneas and released by Interscope.  It quickly amassed over fourteen million online streams and released a number of remixes with Astronomyy, Blackbear, and Goldhouse.

“She perfectly represents a revolt against conventional pop culture.  Her style embodies her music choice,” said sophomore Jaime Levin.

Eilish followed up in Feb. 2017 with “Bellyache,” then landed another track, “Bored,” on the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why.

An extended play record, don’t smile at me, featuring the singles “COPYCAT” and “watch,” followed later that summer.

“I think Billie is insanely talented, and extremely mature for her age.  Her music is really different, and I’m sure she will do big things when she’s older.” said sophomore Sarah Tartell.

At only sixteen years old, Billie Eilish has established a unique presence in pop culture. With her distinct voice, as well as modern and fresh take on this new era of pop, Eilish has caught the attention of many and has gained a large fan base which will continue to grow.
