There’s a lot to be said about celebrities going through periods of time when their actions are questioned and judged by fans.  Recently, Kanye West has been stirring the pot with a series of controversial tweets.  After a lengthy hiatus from Twitter, Kanye has returned, and he has now begun to talk politics.  It all started when the influential rapper fired his manager, Scooter Braun.  Kanye now has hardly any team behind him to work on his new album and has started expressing himself with little regard for the impact of his words. He defended himself by saying that he is a “free thinker.” 

Most recently, Kanye came out in support of Donald Trump, wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat and expressing his feelings on Twitter.

“We are both dragon energy.  He is my brother,” said West in a tweet.

This sparked backlash from many of his fans.  Next, Kanye went on TMZ to share some provocative remarks, the most offensive statement being that he believes slavery is a “choice.”

“When you hear about slavery for 400 years, for 400 years?  That sounds like a choice!” said West. 

He also opened up on TMZ about his previous opioid addiction, explaining that when he had liposuction years ago, he was given opioids and quickly found that he could not live without them.

Following this, many of his fans took to social media to explain how appalled and disturbed they were about Kanye’s statements and opinions, calling him a moron and saying that his statements showed how out of touch Kanye is with society.  He has lost over 9.2 million Twitter followers since his tweets about President Trump, and that’s just the beginning.  The internet is abuzz over this recent controversy, and even celebrities such as John Legend are weighing in on the issue. West has lost a considerable number of fans over his statements and actions and does not seem to realize the damage he is causing himself.

How does his family feel about this?  Kanye’s wife, Kim Kardashian, said that although she is extremely worried about him, she will continue to defend him publicly.  She also announced that she has very different beliefs to Kanye’s and does not want people to think that by not shaming her husband she is agreeing with him.  Kanye did not join his wife at the Met Gala on May 7.  In addition, although there have been rumors about a conflict between West and Kris Jenner, Jenner went on Ellen saying that she believes that Kanye has good intentions behind everything he does.

With all of this going on, it is hard to focus on the new music that Kanye reportedly has coming out.  His album is set to be released on June 1.  Aside from that, Kanye is putting out a joint album with Kid Cudi on June 8.  Between his albums, his clothing, and all of the recent Twitter controversy, it is hard to keep up with Kanye.  One can only hope that Kanye recovers soon and fixes all of the problems he has created for himself.
