Grammy and Oscar-winning singer-songwriter John Legend recently released his first Christmas album, titled Legendary Christmas, in the most festive time of the year.

Known for his R&B, soul, and pop music style, Legend put his own twist on the classic Christmas songs.  In doing so, he has gained attention for its unique holiday mash-up.

“I think that John Legend is such a great musician and I can’t wait to listen to his rendition on these classic Christmas tunes,” said freshmen Avery Miller.

The album contains 14 songs, and features covers of Christmas classics, as well as originals.  The album, released on Oct. 26, has been Legend’s first album since Darkness and Light, which was released in 2016.

The album includes classics like “Christmas Time is Here,” “Please Come Home for Christmas,” cover of Marvin Gaye’s “Purple Snowflakes,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” and “What Christmas Means to me.” All of these songs were produced by Raphael Saadiq.

The album also features musical legend Stevie Wonder playing the harmonica as well as Esperanza Spalding as one of the featuring vocalists.

“Legend is such a inspirational man for the representation of black people in the entertainment industry,” said sophomore Alana Bernstein.

Legend’s 2018 tour dates were announced early September.  In addition to songs from his new album, he performed some songs from his previous albums, including the hit “All of Me.”

The 25-date tour began on Nov. 15 in Florida and ends on Dec. 30 in California.  In order to support his new records, Legend intentionally planned the tour during the holiday season.

The tour will take place in different cities, including Chicago, Seattle, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, and more.

“I can’t believe he going to so many places! I wish I could buy a ticket,” said freshmen Abigail Kapoor

Along with tickets to the concert, several VIP packages were available.  These include perks ranging from a meet-and-greet Christmas photo card, to an opportunity to receive free merchandise.

The VIP packages also come with an invitation to the Good Night Christmas Affair party where Legend will be holding a Q&A session.  Every person who bought a pair of tickets online was also able to get a standard copy of John Legend’s Christmas album.

“This is the perfect time to kick off his tour because it’s during Christmas!” said freshman Jae Longaro.

The singer-songwriter revealed last month that Legend had been extremely busy working over the summer on this holiday track.  He discussed how he found the experience fascinating because the temperatures were scorching during the same time he was singing about snow.

Since there are no shows scheduled for Christmas Eve or Christmas Day, it’s likely that the singer will be spending the holiday with friends and family like everyone else.  So, in order to keep up the Legendary holiday spirit, make sure to introduce your family to this cheerful album!
