Two sisters bring Good Trouble in an all new spinoff show

Looking for a new funny and drama filled series to start off the New Year? Good Trouble is the spin-off series from The Fosters. It premiered on Jan. 8, and the show now airs every Tuesday at 8 p.m. on Freeform.

Good Trouble is filled with comedy, drama, and romance. Maia Mitchell and Cierra Ramirez are two of the show’s main stars. Mitchell plays Callie, who is strong-minded and is willing to do everything necessary to fight for what she believes in, while Ramirez plays Mariana, who is bubbly and bright and is always excited for an opportunity to be creative and have fun.

The other main actors in the cast include Sherry Cola, Zuri Adele, Tommy Martinez, Roger Bart, and Emma Hunton. IN addition, Bradley Bredweig, Peter Paige, and Joanna Johnson are the directors of this newest spin-off. Bredweig and Paige were the directors of The Fosters as well.

Meanwhile, The Fosters is a show about a very non-traditional family trying to overcome their obstacles in life. Parents Lena and Stef go through many challenges with their five children as they cope with the stress of school, romance, and many other problems. Brandon Foster is Stef’s biological son from a previous marriage and the oldest of the children. Mariana and Jesus are twins who were adopted by Stef and Lena when they were eight years old, and have been part of the family ever since.

“Good Trouble is amazing, it really catches your attention,” said freshman Avery Miller.  “It is filled with surprises and I can’t wait to see more!”

The first episode of the show begins with Stef and Lena fostering troubled teenager Callie Jacobson and her younger brother Jude, and then adopting them both later in the series. The show explores various real-world issues, from the reality of foster care, to the effect of addiction on others, to the repercussions of immigration policies. Through all this, the main message of the show is that your family will always be there for you, no matter what.

There has been great excitement and anticipation while waiting for the premiere of the new series. On Jan. 4, Good Trouble tweeted that the fresh new spin-off was “the most anticipated show of 2019.” As we dive into the series, we follow sisters Callie and Mariana as they move to Los Angeles from San Diego, where The Fosters is set, and begin their own lives.

Noah Centineo, who played Jesus in The Fosters, makes a guest appearance in two of the 13 episodes in the series. In addition, Teri Polo and Sherri Saum, who respectively play Callie and Mariana’s moms Stef and Lena, make a special appearance to visit the girls in their new apartment in one episode. While much of the same cast from The Fosters will return in Good Trouble, the cast won’t be entirely the same.

“There’s a lot of maturity in the show,” said Centimo in an interview with Seventeen magazine.  “It’s kind of completely different, but in the best way possible.”
