The Macy’s Day Parade Is Picking Up A Lot of Great Performers
Thanksgiving is coming up soon on Nov. 28, and with that comes the
beloved Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Since 1924, the parade has
been a staple of Thanksgiving, almost as anticipated as the turkey dinner. Aside
from the usual floats, the parade features different acts every year, including
distinguished high school and college bands, performances from various
Broadway plays, and famous music groups.
Many people look forward to the parade, which marks the start of the holiday
season. This year, the parade includes many exciting entertainers. One
performer, Billy Porter, is a singer and actor who is famous for his many Broadway
roles, such as Lola in the play Kinky Boots. In addition, Porter currently stars in the
television series Pose, and he has made history as the first gay black man to win
a Primetime Emmy Award. Porter will be performing on the Coach float and many
fans will be anxiously waiting to see him.
Another acclaimed act appearing in this year’s parade is the musical group,
The Black Eyed Peas. For almost 20 years, this group has created world-famous
music, such as hits like “Where is the Love?,” “Boom Boom Pow,” and “I Gotta
Feeling.” The Black Eyed Peas will be performing on the NHL float.
Ciara, the Grammy Award winning singer, will be performing some of her
many hit songs at the parade. This musician, TV producer, model, and wife of
NFL player Russell Wilson has made notable philanthropic contributions to women
and children around the world. Her performance is eagerly anticipated.
“I’m so excited to see Ciara perform. I love her music,” said junior Abbie
Garfin.
Another amazing performer at the parade will be Kelly Rowland. The
former Destiny’s Child member has had a successful solo career since the group’s
split. Since the age of 16, Rowland has been dazzling the world with her acting
skills, songs, and even novels.
“I love Destiny’s Child, and seeing Kelly Rowland perform live will be
really exciting to me,” said junior Sari Hartstein.
Other anticipated acts include the performance of scenes from Frozen,
and the appearances of Idina Menzel, who performed in Wicked, and Lea Michelle
of the hit show Glee. Two former NASA astronauts, Kay Hire and Janet Kavandi,
are also scheduled to appear. These women have been to space numerous
times, and they are teaching future generations about space travel and STEM.
Lastly, singing group TLC, K-pop band NCT 127, and singer Natasha Bedingfield
will also be performing.
With all of these amazing performers participating, there is no doubt that this
year’s parade will be thrilling.
The Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade also includes a number of
staples. Most notably, every year there is an appearance from Santa at the very
end of the parade. The parade is viewed as ushering in Black Friday and the
beginning of the holiday season. All those interested in watching the parade live
can tune in to see it on NBC from 9:00 am to noon on Thanksgiving morning.
