College Corner: Penn State

For many seniors, one of the biggest struggles during the application process is deciding which school is best, as there are so many amazing colleges to consider.  One college to consider is the Pennsylvania State University.  In fact, for many students, such as Schreiber alumni Nia Eonidis, it was  the perfect fit.

Pennsylvania State University is an excellent college to put on your list for a number of  reasons.  For Eonidis, Penn State checked all her boxes.  She wanted a college with school spirit, academics, and location.  She was looking for a school with a ton of school spirit and this college definitely fit that bill. Along with school spirit, she wanted a place with academic rigor, and applied to the highly rated business program which is highly rated.  In addition, Eonidis was looking to be close to home, and since Penn State is only a four and a half hour drive from Port, it was the perfect place for her.

“I chose Penn State because the university has so much school spirit and is so much fun. I also wanted to take into account academics, and the business program is highly rated. The alumni network is also very strong.  It’s also a 4 1/2 hour drive from Port Washington which is great if I ever want to go home for the weekend,” said Eonidis.

As stated earlier, one of the most important factors in Nia’s decision was school spirit and the sports scene.  Penn State is really big on football, and Nia shares how going to football games is one of her favorite things to do.  The stadium fits around 107,000 people and is close to full during the fall season.  Many students tailgate before the games and then head to the stadium.

“Football is huge here so I’d say that’s the best sport to watch, or hockey games.  During football season we all tailgate before the games and then go to the stadium which is so much fun.” said Eonidis.

Along with football games, there are tons of other things to do on campus.  There are clubs and organizations for almost everything you can think of.

“Penn State offers over 1,000 student organizations and you can find almost anything you would like to take part in.  If you can’t find the right fit, you can start your own! One of the clubs I’m in is called Challah for Hunger.  Every other Thursday we bake challah and sell it.  The money made goes towards world hunger,” said Eonidis.

Also, there are just as many activities off campus.  There are tons of amazing restaurants. One of Nia’s favorites is the sushi restaurant Mr. Wish. “One of my favorite things to do on campus is go downtown with my friends and go out to eat. One of our favorite spots is a restaurant called Mr. Wish which has the best sushi for super cheap and boba tea” said Nia.

Another aspect of Penn State that really sold Nia was its campus.  The campus is huge, but Nia reported that once you become familiar with it, it feels much smaller.  Some of the buildings were built as early as 1800, but there are also newer editions to campus.

“Penn State’s campus is very pretty.  Although it’s large, once you find your way around it feels so much smaller than it really is.  The buildings range from being built in the mid 1800’s to 2020.  One of Penn State’s iconic buildings is called “Old Main” which is made of limestone.  Other buildings like the business building on campus have many glass windows and are perfect study spots,” said Nia.

For Nia Eonidis, Penn State was the perfect place for more reasons than one.  It is a great place to consider, and it may be an awesome fit for you as well!
