Music’s biggest stars take the stage

With COVID-19 restrictions being lifted in certain areas, live music is finally making a comeback.  Two of pop music’s biggest stars, Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa, are joining many other artists and going on tour this year.  They will be performing all over the world, including some venues in the New York area.  This will provide many with the opportunity to see some of their favorite artists after such a long break.

Billie Eilish, at only 20 years old, is going on her second international tour.  Her new album, Happier Than Ever, stayed at the top spot on the Billboard charts for over three weeks after its release on Jul. 30.  The album features hits such as “Therefore I am,” “Your Power,” and the title track, “Happier Than Ever.”  The tour will have legs in North America, Europe, and Oceania.

“My favorite Billie song is probably “Happier Than Ever, and I think it would sound great live just because of  the style of the music,” said freshman Katherine Doherty.

Eilish kicked off her tour in New Orleans on Feb. 4, at the Smoothie King Center.  She will soon make her way all around the country, ending the North American leg of the tour on Apr. 9 at The Forum in Los Angeles.  Eilish will be doing four shows in the New York area, including one at the new UBS arena in Belmont Park on Feb. 15.

“When I saw Harry Styles at the UBS Arena, it was so much fun.  Even though we were in nosebleed seats, we still had a great view.  I am super excited to be able to see other artists perform there because it is an amazing venue,” said freshman Eva Franchetti.

Eilish will also be performing two concerts at Madison Square Garden in Manhattan on Feb. 18 and Feb. 19, and one at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Feb. 22.  Eilish will continue the tour in Europe on June 3 in Belfast, UK and travel all over the continent, ending with her show in Zurich, Switzerland, on July 2.  After a short break she will then pick up the tour once again for its last stretch from Auckland, New Zealand on Sep. 8, to Perth, Australia, on Sep. 30.

Dua Lipa, at age 26, is also on the second tour of her career.  She went on a North American and European tour in 2017, showcasing her debut album Dua Lipa.  She is now doing a complete international tour, which also includes performances in New Zealand, to showcase her hit album Future Nostalgia.  Lipa’s sophomore album was also released on Mar. 27, 2020.  The album features popular songs such as “Levitating,” “Don’t Start Now,” and “Break My Heart.”

“I love Dua Lipa’s music and wish I was able to go to her tour.  My favorite song of hers is “Boys Will Be Boys,” and I think it would sound amazing live,” said freshman Jackie Duarte.

Lipa will be kicking off her sophomore tour on Feb. 9 at the FTX Arena in Miami, Florida and will be traveling all throughout North America and Europe, ending the tour on Sep. 23 at the Estadio Banorte in Monterry, Mexico.  She has also added two dates at the Spark Arena in Auckland, New Zealand, which will take place later in the year.  Lipa will be doing three shows in the Tri-State Area, including Feb. 21 at UBS Arena, Mar. 1 at Madison Square Garden, and Mar. 4 at the Prudential Center.

These artists are just some of the major stars going on tour this year.  They will be joining Adele, Coldplay, and Lorde on stages across the world.  Tickets are available on TicketMaster.com or on the TicketMaster app.  Prices can range anywhere from as low as $40 to $600+, depending on the location of the seat in the venue.
