Summer Trend Forecast
As the flowers begin to bloom and the air heats up, wardrobes change to match this warmer weather. The sun’s highly-anticipated appearance encourages the ditching of long sleeves and leggings, paving the way for some new looks. This summer’s fashion forecast includes everything you could want from low-rise jeans to come-back collections.
Cooler tones, like purple and deep blue, seem to be taking over this summer, a swap from the traditional reds, yellows, and oranges. Although these colors are typically associated with the winter months, members of the fashion community have found ways to incorporate them into their outfits for the warmer season.
In addition, neon versions of most colors are popular right now. Currently, what is especially trendy is matching your clothing to accessories to create the perfect monochrome look that is coveted by all it-girls and celebrities.
“I love the new take on summer colors. It can be very boring to have to stick to the same few colors in the summer. Adding cool toned colors makes a basic outfit more interesting. I especially love matching my shirt to my shoes and bag to create a partially monochromatic outfit that looks polished and cool,” said junior Chloe Weshler.
In terms of jewelry, chunky pieces are hot on the market right now. Heavy earrings, bangle bracelets, and large rings are in full swing at the moment. The sacred rule of “no mixing gold and silver” has been practically abolished; people are styling their jewelry however they please. Along with basic metal tones, colorful jewelry, composed of plastic and clay, has become more common. For rings, especially, people look for youthful and chunky styles to add a pop of color, which draws attention and accentuates their looks.
“I love the trend of chunky and colorful rings! I see them on my friend’s hands all the time, and I am considering purchasing some for myself to make my summer outfits a little more exciting and fun,” said senior Emily Gallucci.
The 2000s continue to make a come-back this summer. Micro-skirts are taking over along with the return of low-rise jeans; both are controversial revivals to those who still cling to their comfy high-rise jeans and skirts. Preppy, two-piece outfits, which feature these pleated skirts that appear to be cropped super short and low-rise jeans worn with collared shirts are a popular look.
“I think low rise jeans and micro skirts are a really fun look to experiment with. I enjoy wearing both with a cute crop top or even just a tank top for a more casual look. I’m so excited this trend has come back into style,” said junior Alexandra Cascio.
Micro-bags this summer will still reign supreme, especially ones made from unconventional materials. Designer Coperni Paris created the perfect micro-bag with a twist: it is made of glass. This bag has broken the internet after being seen on the arms of supermodels, such as Gigi Hadid. People have grown to adore the fragile and, frankly, confusing accessory. Although, theoretically, the main purpose of a handbag is to hold small accessories and personal items, this bag defies that roleby being made of one single material – glass. Since the debut of the handbag, Google searches under “glass purses” have risen to an all-time high.
“I’ve seen the famous glass micro bag on all the top celebrities. Recently I saw Doja Cat wearing one, and I thought it looked so cool. I’d love to try this trend if a more affordable version was made,” said sophomore Averie Masia.
The upcoming summer will be the season of show-stopping and eye-catching looks. This is not the time for muted pastels or simple outfits; this is the time to bring out all the fun colors, chunky jewelry and the practically impractical micro-bag.
