Eventful Summer of 2022 Goes Out with a Bang
This past summer saw a lot of fresh and exciting events, as well as endless amounts of news in the world of arts and entertainment. The summer of 2022 was filled with some of the biggest fashion trends that took inspiration from the 2000s Y2k fashion style. Oval sunglasses that were signatures to such celebrities as Paris Hilton and Britney Spears were purchased frequently this summer as a daring and flirty touch to a perfect beach outfit. Thanks to the Kardashians and other celebrities like Julia Fox, low-rise jeans have made a return from the dead, and have found themselves at front lines of stores this summer.
As the summer begins to wind down and come to a close, the fashion industry has other plans in mind. The Sept. Vogue issue is one of the most highly awaited of the year, and this year, world star tennis player Serena Williams will be featured on the cover.
Over the summer, there were plenty of exciting activities to participate in. New York City offered a wide variety of new art, trends, exhibits, and food. One restaurant that was the highlight of summer in New York was the Lafayette Bakery, who, with the help of social media platforms, attracted many customers with their extravagant filled croissants. A popular summer flavor was peaches and creme, and many customers found themselves waiting in hour-long lines in the early morning just to taste these special pastries.
“I saw those croissants all over my For You page this summer, but when I finally made it there, the line was out the door. I’m sure those baked goods were something special,” said senior Caroline Eustace.
Many movies came out during the summer that people went to local movie theaters or stayed on their couch and used a streaming service. Through the lens of his complex relationship with his mysterious manager, the movie Elvis examines the life of music icon Elvis Presley, played by Austin Butler. The narrative explores the complicated relationship between Presley and his manager, Colonel Parker (Tom Hanks) throughout his careercareer, against the backdrop of America’s changing cultural landscape.. Another popular movie released over the summer, geared more towards kids, was The Rise of Gru. The film was the fifth overall installment in the Despicable Me franchise and the sequel to the spin-off Minions. It was received incredibly well by the public and earned over $215 million in the box office.
Since the summer has just recently ended, Billboard has come out with their Top 100 Songs of the Summer. “As It Was” by Harry Styles came in at number one, with Lizzo’s “About Damn Time” at number two, and “First Class” by Jack Harlow came in at third.
“The music that came out this summer was amazing, and I thought that it fit the summer vibes perfectly. Harry Styles is such a great singer and is a great person as well. He is on tour right now and just came to New York – I was so sad to have missed the concert,” said junior Isabella Blickley.
Although these three songs happened to have been played the most, there were still many other great songs that came out over the summer. Harry Styles dropped his Harry’s House album, which was released on May 20, and BTS dropped their new album, We Are Bulletproof on Jun. 10.
Overall, this summer consisted of many major pop culture moments that will go down in history. Summer 2022 will not be forgotten.
