I Am Nacho Mama is landing right on Main street

Coming soon to Port Washington is a new Mexican restaurant known as I Am Nacho MamaThe first thing that strikes people is the restaurant’s creative and quirky name, which is also a funny pun.  I Am Nacho Mama already has a location in Hicksville, but will be expanding with its new Port Washington location.  The restaurant has a unique backstory, as its humble beginnings were as a food truck.  I Am Nacho Mama has stellar reviews on websites such as Yelp, and the quality and standard of the food seems very high.

“I am so excited for a new restaurant to come to Port Washington.  I Am Nacho Mama seems like it will be a very fun atmosphere with tasty dishes,” said sophomore Nathan Jackmen.

I Am Nacho Mama is replacing Bareburger on Main Street, which closed early this year due to unknown reasons.  For a while, the space where Bareburger was sitting was empty, until I Am Nacho Mama decided to put a second location there.  The restaurant is in a prime location on Main Street, as it is in the center of town and easily accessible to many community members.  The restaurant is yet to be opened, and the date of its opening is still unknown, but there is already a substantial amount of buzz surrounding the restaurant.  I Am Nacho Mama is set to continue the welcomed trend of new restaurants in Port Washington, such as Joju and MB Ramen, which have both opened up in the past year.  These new restaurants are sure to increase the food traffic and options around town.

“Every time a new restaurant in Port Washington opens, the first thing I do is go to try it.  I love having so many diverse options of food around town,” said junior Natalie Cheng.

I Am Nacho Mama’s menu is Mexican cuisine with a twist.  The nacho section of the menu is very customizable, with toppings ranging from shrimp, chicken, or griddle queso.  The prices are affordable, and the restaurant also offers creative food options such as its Sloppy Dog, which consists of two hot dogs topped with garlic aioli, mustard, curtido, black olives, pickled jalapeños, guacamole, cheese, and crema.   They also put a spin on the classic Cuban sandwich by using pulled pork instead of ham.  I Am Nacho Mama offers ribs with its dishes as they can be used in tacos, burritos, or ordered separately, and of course, no meal is complete without dessert.  The restaurant offers a unique dessert called Zacapa flan, which utilizes Zacapa rum, eggs, milk, and sugar, in what is a popular custard.

“I can’t wait to check out this restaurant on my own, as it sounds amazing, especially the Sloppy dog,” said junior Lauren Young.

I Am Nacho Mama seems to be a promising addition to the Port Washington restaurant lineup.  Its unique take on classic American dishes such as hot dogs adds creativity to the restaurant, as it isn’t your typical Mexican restaurant.  From positive reviews to creative dishes, I Am Nacho Mama will be a great hit in the hearts and stomachs of the residents of Port Washington.
