Calling all football fans, the most anticipated sports game in America is coming up soon! The 58th Annual NFL Super Bowl is upon us, and viewers are excitedly preparing their plans for the game. Broadcasted in over 130 different countries, worldwide screenings of the Super Bowl bring together friends and families for this special day. The largest number of views, however, comes from North America where the Super Bowl is the most watched sporting event of the year.
In anticipation of the big game, superfans are betting on their favorite teams and matchups to duel under the lights. As of Jan. 8, 14 teams who have earned spots in the playoff matches were announced, including the Miami Dolphins, the Philadelphia Eagles, the Houston Texans, and other favorites.
One way to celebrate the game, even just in your own home, can include making some football themed snacks for your family. All it takes is one internet search to find recipes and designs for snacks like football-shaped charcuterie boards, empanadas, and cupcakes.
The Super Bowl is an annual event many look forward to not just to watch an exhilarating game, but to also spend time with family and friends.
“I am hanging out with my friends, making predictions on the game, and watching the halftime show. I’m looking forward to winning some bets, and having a good time,” said sophomore Sienna Kohn.
Many people’s extended families drive hours to come together for a watch party that features many delicious snacks, drinks, and some laughs along with watching the big game.
“My extended family is driving in a couple of hours before the game. We usually make appetizers and eat dinner together before bringing it near the television for a viewing party. I’m really excited! I can’t wait to see which teams are going head to head; this is always a big tradition my family looks forward to annually,” said sophomore Alivia Saunders.
Another aspect of the Super Bowl for those more interested in music than football, is the halftime show. Usher, a popular R&B and Dance musical artist, is headlining the Super Bowl halftime show in 2024. With popular songs like “Nice and Slow” and “Yeah,” along with well known features with Ne-Yo and Pitbull, Usher was a popular choice for the performing artist.
“I know that since my family is very big on the Super Bowl, it’s definitely good to have something to look forward to for those who want to spend time with their families, but aren’t too involved in the sport. I know my brothers look forward to the game itself, but I’m more interested in the musical artist performing. I look forward to watching that every year,” said sophomore Victoria Kaufman.
It seems that many people in our town are doing more casual things for the Super Bowl this year, however, there are also those who plan to indulge in larger-scale events. For instance, some families chip in to hold block parties, where there are football themed bounce houses, snacks, and floats. As much as the Super Bowl is an exciting sporting event, the time spent with family and friends because of it should be equally valued.
The Super Bowl is a great way to ‘kick off’ a family get together, especially with those we don’t typically see. Another way to celebrate the Super Bowl without having to have a house full of chaos and screaming fans is to view it at a restaurant. Although this may be a little more pricey with a group, the energy of all of the fans eating and drinking together while watching the big game is a guaranteed great time with good vibes.
No matter where you watch the Super Bowl, the NFL promises a great entertainment for all. Whether it’s sharing food or laughs with friends and family, the game will certainly be a source of fun and a topic to discuss for days to come. Make sure to tune into CBS on Feb. 11 to watch.Even though it’s the 58th year airing, the excitement still remains the same.
