The girl’s varsity soccer team is underway during an exciting fall season after a strong finish in 2023. With an abundance of fresh talent, the team is prepared to embark on its 2024 campaign and build on its success from the previous year. Head Coach Ms. Lauren Brossard is optimistic about her team’s ability to push for a postseason run as the season gets underway.
The start of the girl’s varsity soccer season has been nothing short of spectacular. They opened the year against Cold Spring Harbor and put on a defensive clinic to win the game 1-0. Then, the team faced Plainview-Old Bethpage JFK in their second match, where their attack got the job done in a 4-2 win.
In their most recent match, the girls took down a tough Manhasset squad in a 2-1 victory. The team recently continued their dominance on Monday, Sept. 16 where they beat Mepham 1-0.
“The girls varsity soccer team has a lot of great players this year and it would be fun if both the girls and boys teams have great seasons this fall. The soccer program is in a fantastic position right now, with two talented teams who have what it takes to do something special,” said junior Matthew Kokkalakis.
Supporters of the girls’ and boys’ varsity soccer teams like Kokkalakis have many reasons to be optimistic about the soccer teams this fall.
The team’s schedule this year includes several difficult opponents that could make or break their season. A crucial game will be played on Sept. 25, when the team will take on a solid North Shore team. The significance of this matchup can be underlined by the teams having two of the strongest starts in the conference. This is a key game for the girls to continue their momentum.
“The girls have a really good young team this year and considering the form they’re playing in right now, it seems as if they can take on just about anyone,” said junior Luke Magali.
Those who have watched any of the girls’ spectacular performances thus far can vouch for Magali along with the team’s excellence.
Standout player Eloise Rubinstein enters her sophomore year following what was a debut season that was nothing short of spectacular. She made an instant impact on the squad as she was one of the team leaders in goals and assists in 2023. Rubinstein utilizes her unique skills to make large contributions to the team and she is a key player to keep an eye on this season. Other players who will play a large role in the team’s success this season include senior Mia Rochester, juniors Olivia Sanger and Sam Benson-Tyler, and sophomore Riley Shalom.
Coach Brossard will once again be behind the bench as she coaches the girls varsity soccer team in 2024. This fall, the girls will look to focus on improving every training session and get to that next level. In 2023, the girl’s varsity soccer team qualified for the playoffs and fell to a highly competitive Oceanside. Nonetheless, the season can still be looked upon as a success.
“Following a tough loss in the playoffs last year, there is no doubt that the girl’s varsity soccer team is seeking revenge this season,” said junior Rey Reynolds.
This fall, the girls aim to get even better and turn even more heads across Nassau County and even Long Island as they look to emerge as a championship-contending team.
The girl’s varsity soccer team is motivated to have another successful year as we progress further into the 2024 season. The team has a well-balanced roster consisting of experienced leaders and an unusual amount of young talent. The Vikings have a good shot at finishing the season in a good position and making a deep run in the postseason as long as they stay focused and determined. As we enter another exciting season of high school soccer, supporters should be thrilled to see what this team can achieve.
