The famous Britpop band Oasis shocked the world with a reunion tour coming in 2025. The band took to their official social media accounts on Aug. 27, saying “the guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised.” In the 1990s, Oasis was one of the biggest and most influential rock bands in the world. Unfortunatley, the two leads, brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, had a nasty fight back in 2009, leading to the breakup of the band. The split was a result of many years of fighting between the brothers, and ended up with them not speaking to each other for years afterwards. It’s for this reason that fans are shocked to see that they will be making a return to the stage next year. Set to be Oasis’ first live appearances since their split, the tour will kick off on Jul. 4, 2025 in Cardiff, Wales, and continue around the UK until mid August.
Liam Gallager started the band in 1991 as the lead singer along with Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs, Paul McGuigan, and Tony McCarroll. He would later ask his older brother Noel to join and become the lead guitarist and a major songwriter, finalizing the band’s formation. Arthurs was also on guitar, with McGuigan on bass, and McCarroll on the drums. The band played together for 18 years, amassing a huge fan base around the world and receiving what felt like endless recognition and praise. Unfortunately, internal tensions within the band had begun to grow long before it split. An ongoing feud between the Gallagher brothers had caused chaos for years, with insults thrown around during interviews and in posts on the Internet. The clashing went on for years before Noel quit the band in 2009. His departure left fans devastated and desperate to know what happened. A few years later, Noel Gallagher shared in an interview that he left the band after a violent moment with his brother. Noel repeatedly felt that Liam acted immaturely, and that moment was the final straw for him. The two reportedly had not spoken since, killing any fan’s hope of a possible reunion. While they both performed Oasis songs at solo shows, the magical element of the band being there together, especially the brothers’ musical chemistry, just wasn’t there. Though Liam wanted to patch things up, it was reported that Noel turned down 20 million pounds (about $36 million USD today) to get back together with the band.
The English rock group is known for their fresh, hit albums, such as their 1994 debut album, Definitely Maybe, which gained them fame all throughout Europe, and their 1995 follow up, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, which broke them into the U.S. market. Definitely Maybe had hit songs such as “Live Forever,” “Supersonic,” and “Rock ‘N’ Roll Star,” while (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? offers the well known rock anthems, “Wonderwall” and “Don’t Look Back in Anger.” (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? had become huge across MTV and spread their fame globally.
“My favorite Oasis song is “Wonderwall.” I love to listen to it when I am hanging out with friends or just relaxing at home. I love the band, and I hope to see them on tour!” said sophomore Helene Burke.
Oasis had a way of bringing people together, which is one of the reasons why the band was so special. The release of (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? introduced thousands of people to their music, making their following more of a family than a fan base.
“The fact that this legendary music group is getting back together is unbelievable,” said freshman Elle Tannenbaum.
Liam Gallagher had also been hinting at new music being released soon, getting fans super excited. In response to a question about new music and whether or not fans can expect a new record, he replied, “Yep, it’s already finished.”
Hoping for the tour to span from July to late August, the group initially planned on kicking off the European leg of the tour with 14 shows throughout the UK, starting in Cardiff, Wales. However, after some buyer-reported issues, such as long queue times, error messages, ticket bots, frustrations with inflated dynamic pricing, limited purchasing time windows, and high reseller fees, fans were left disappointed. In response to high demand, Oasis announced three additional concert dates in Manchester, London, and Edinburgh. More tour information is available online for specific dates and cities. The tour has been described as a “world tour,” so many believe that more dates will be released for North America.
“The band Oasis was one of a kind, and I’m so happy another generation gets to experience their music like mine did,” said social studies teacher Mr. Jeremy Klaff.
For their old fans who haven’t seen them in a long time and new fans alike, people of all ages across the world will be able to experience the magic of Oasis during their return tour in just a few months time.
