Sabrina Carpenter’s latest album, Short n’ Sweet, has taken the music world by storm, solidifying her role as a pop sensation. The album, released on Aug. 23, is a blend of catchy tunes and heartfelt lyrics that have not only resonated with fans, but have also left a significant mark on social media and brand promotions.
After the ex-Disney Channel star’s last album in 2022, Emails I Can’t Send, her career took off. Now, the chart-topping Short n’ Sweet has taken Carpenter’s career to a whole new level, transforming her into a real pop star.
“I am so happy to see Sabrina growing as an artist! She deserves the recognition and support she’s been getting, and I can’t wait to see what she’s gonna do next!” said senior Tessa Rudegeair.
Carpenter truly has evolved as an artist over the years, starting her career with basic, Disney-esque pop songs. With each new album and single though, she’s shown more depth and versatility. Her recent work showcases her ability to blend different genres and tackle more mature themes as well. This evolution not only highlights her musical talent, but also her willingness to take risks and explore new creative directions as an artist. It’s clear she’s committed to her craft, pushing boundaries and connecting with audiences on a deeper level.
Like many great albums, Short n’ Sweet has sparked a wave of conversations across various social media platforms. Fans have taken to Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok to share their favorite tracks, create dances, and discuss the album’s best tracks.
“I like how every song has a story to it and can be relatable,” said junior Amanda Mellow.
The relatability of the songs, most of them being about relationships, draws in listeners and makes the music more enjoyable. Lots of different lyrics from different songs have been trending on TikTok, with thousands of videos under each sound.
The album features several standout tracks that have quickly become fan favorites. Songs such as “Taste,” “Sharpest Tool,” and “Dumb & Poetic” beautifully showcase Carpenter’s flexibility as an artist. “Taste,” in particular, has been a massive hit, thanks in part to its catchy chorus and visually stunning music video featuring fellow Disney Channel star Jenna Ortega. The music video heavily mimicked the iconic 1992 movie, Death Becomes Her, which starred Meryl Streep, Goldie Hawn, and Bruce Willis. This collaboration not only boosted the song’s popularity, but also boasted Carpenter’s ability to create buzzworthy content.
“It’s a great album for Sabrina – she’s done a fantastic job. It’s the perfect mix of meaningful and fun,” said sophomore Amelie Denton.
The overall feel of Short n’ Sweet perfectly blends upbeat pop anthems and thoughtful ballads, making it a well-rounded album that appeals to a much wider audience.
The music videos for Short n’ Sweet have been a crucial component of the album’s success as well. When Carpenter released the first single of the album, “Espresso,” it was an instant hit, and the success of the music video reflected that. The beach setting of the video matches perfectly with the summer vibes corresponding to the song and overall feel of the album.
At the end of the “Espresso” music video, Carpenter is arrested, which carries over into the next single’s video, “Please Please Please,” which begins with her being bailed out of jail. Fans loved the continuity between both videos and the storytelling effect that it had. The music video also stars actor Barry Keoghan, who drew attention to the video due to the now-ended relationship between him and Carpenter. The “Taste” music video, with its vibrant visuals and star-studded cast, has garnered millions of views on YouTube.
“The collaboration with Jenna Ortega in the ‘Taste’ music video was genius. It made the great song even more memorable,” said junior Kailyn Costello.
This visual appeal, combined with Carpenter’s engaging choreographies, has contributed to the album’s impressive chart performance. “Short n’ Sweet” has already seen multiple tracks climb the Billboard charts, with “Taste” reaching the top 10.
On Sept. 11, Sabrina Carpenter attended the Video Music Awards where Short n’ Sweet was nominated for several awards. She performed a medley of “Please Please Please,” “Taste,” and “Espresso,” her most popular songs at the moment. The production was top-notch, featuring stunning visuals, intricate choreography, and a space and astronaut theme to match the theme of the event. Her performance captivated the audience, giving a testament to her growth as an artist and ability to command the stage. Carpenter also claimed the award for Song of the Year with her hit song, “Espresso.”
Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet is more than just an album; it’s a cultural phenomenon. With its catchy songs, strategic promotions, and captivating music videos, this album has cemented Carpenter’s place in pop culture. As the year progresses, it will be exciting to see how “Short n’ Sweet” continues to shape the music landscape and earn the recognition it deserves.
