Lauren Graham, known for playing Lorelai Gilmore on Gilmore Girls, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Oct. 3. Fans and stars came to celebrate and support this major achievement with her. In her speech, she shared how grateful she was to see so many of her former colleagues and friends cheering her on. She also added that the role that has stayed with her the most throughout her career is Lorelai, and that it means so much to her when her fans say they grew up watching the show with their families and loved ones. Moments like that, she said, remind her why the show still matters so much, even after all these years.
“I just finished watching Gilmore Girls and I already started rewatching it. I love watching Lorelai’s relationship with Rory and how it evolved over the years,” said sophomore Liza Zlotoff.
Gilmore Girls first aired in 2000 and quickly became a fan favorite. The show follows Graham’s character, Lorelai, and her daughter Rory, who live in the small town of Stars Hollow. The show is known for its heartfelt, funny moments. Lorelai quickly became a fan favorite because of her funny, independent, and energetic personality. She was the “cool” mom everyone either wished they had or aimed to be.
“Lorelai is definitely my favorite character on Gilmore Girls. She’s so funny and always makes me laugh whenever I rewatch the show,” said sophomore Julia Finkelstein.
Along with her star on the Walk of Fame, Graham will also be featured in a brand new documentary about Gilmore Girls celebrating the show’s 25th anniversary. Searching for Stars Hollow will also feature Kelly Bishop, Jared Padalecki, Chad Michael Murray, and others. The documentary is supposed to consist of behind the scenes moments and also have some interviews of cast and crew members that haven’t been seen before.
“Searching For Stars Hollow will reveal how Gilmore Girls came to life, why it continues to resonate across generations, and how its unique blend of humor, heart and pop culture shaped a devoted worldwide fan community with an in-depth look at its creation and the connections it continues to foster,” said Jim Demanakos, a producer of the show. He explains how the documentary isn’t only for those who have heard or watched the show, but also for those who are interested in culture and how it impacts people individually.
“I’m so excited to watch the new documentary. Gilmore Girls is my favorite show and I can’t wait to see all the unreleased footage and hear all the stories about the show being made,” said sophomore Jordan Restivo.
The documentary will also highlight how the show helped to shape female-led television and give a voice to strong, complex women. It will take a closer look at the creative process behind the fast-paced writing and how the cast brought their characters to life. Fans are especially excited to see more of stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel who played mother and daughter for seven seasons and built an important relationship by doing so.
For many, Gilmore Girls isn’t just a show, it’s a comfort, tradition, and way to connect with people they love. It’s become a meaningful part of so many lives and inspires people. With Lauren Graham receiving her star and the new documentary hopefully on its way soon, it’s clear that fans haven’t forgotten about Gilmore Girls, and it is still alive and popular today. As the 25th anniversary approaches, fans both old and new are looking forward to watching the characters they love once again.
