Wellness Day is a recently-created school event that takes place during the school day each year. It provides students with a break from all the rigorous work they have during the week. Students are able to sign up via StudentSquare for two separate hour-long sessions that they are interested in. However, students spend all week doing hours upon hours of school work and for some unknown reason Wellness Day is only two hours. Wellness day should be extended to give students a full day off from school.
Wellness Day is currently limited to just two hours at the end of the school day. Periods are shortened down to forty minutes and during those classes little work gets completed. Wellness Day should have either longer sessions or more sessions to allow students to fully enjoy their moment of relaxation.
In previous years, Wellness Day was on a Friday, ending the week with a little fun and enjoyment for the students. However, with this year’s event being scheduled for a Wednesday, students will still have homework and tests later in the week and will not enjoy the day as much as they should. This might decrease student immersion in the activities as they will likely be preoccupied. One reason for wellness day on Wednesday is that students like to use it as an excuse to miss school and take a long weekend.
Furthermore, a common issue found with Wellness Day is that students are highly likely to leave and skip their assigned events. If Wellness Day is extended to a larger portion of the day, fewer students will be inclined to leave so quickly. In addition, the school should create strict punishments for students who skip their assigned activities. For instance, there are events such as sports that aren’t enjoyable with a limited number of participants. With more guidelines structured around Wellness Day, it creates a more pleasurable experience for everyone.
Usually, there is one held in the fall and another in the spring so students can discover events they usually wouldn’t have the opportunity to. Wellness Day in the spring provides students with something to look forward to as the school year is progressing and nearing the end. This event is enjoyed by most of the students at Schreiber and there is no need to take away the second day because students actually do enjoy it.
Overall, Wellness Day is meant to be a fun event that gives students a break from all of the work they have. However, there are many changes that could be made in order to increase the attendance and enjoyment of this special event at Schreiber.
