Schreiber deserves all the holiday cheer and celebration it can get. The school should be cheerful and decorated for the holiday season. Although it may take time away from the art teachers’ already busy day, window paintings would bring more cheer and positive energy to the school with excitement of the holidays and winter break. Some may believe that it disrupts the functionality of the halls but it will raise students’ spirits and bring joy and smiles to their faces.
The holiday season is known to be an extremely stressful time for students. With numerous tests before winter break and midterms quickly approaching, there is a lot on students’ minds. Having some decorations and small accents of color in the halls may just be enough to change a student’s day and mindset. Decorated halls and classrooms would increase school spirit and the overall atmosphere of the building.
However, students aren’t the only ones stressed. Teachers have to finish grading, prepare students for midterms, and make sure to stay on schedule before break. By being able to decorate the school, students and teachers alike would get a well-deserved break during their day. Schreiber’s Annual Window Painting is a much-anticipated event, and there’s no reason why it shouldn’t spread beyond the cafeteria.
“I believe that decorating the school brings more spirit and positive energy to the school,” said freshman Juliette Claster.
While some may think that decorating the school is a waste of time for the people doing it, it can go a long way in improving spirit and lessening stress.
“I think that instead of having art classes decorated for the holidays it should be clubs because in art we have to stick to a certain curriculum rather than spending time decorating the school. I do think it is a lovely idea to decorate the school. I just don’t think that art classes should be the ones to do that,” said art teacher Ms. Sarah Brackman.
Decorating the school could also be offered as an activity for club or honor society credit. Although it would be nice for art classes to decorate, clubs are more realistic.
“We should decorate the schools for the holidays and it should be a club thing because even though people think it should be an art thing that’s not what we are meant to do in art classes,” said freshman Maya Kramer.
Overall, decorating the school can be time consuming for both students and staff. However, a more positive building environment that makes people smile can make a big difference with the holidays right around the corner.
